sisterhood is how we survive.
The #sisterhoodishowwesurvive origin story
My SHIP used to wear all black everywhere we went for a myriad of reasons, but mostly because we wanted to be known for our work and for our sisterhood. We knew that our bond was greater than others’ stereotypes. I created the first shirt for our #shiptrip to Essence Fest. I knew that women that have relationships with other women that are affirming, give you space to fall, and a space of accountability understood the message as well. So, I made it available @gscdotla
Everyone wanted me to make them in sorority colors, but I wanted the message to be inclusive. This year as I’ve evaluated my relationships and leaned on my sorority sisters in times of loss and so much more, I’ve come to a greater appreciation of our commitment to a shared goal. I’ve come to appreciate the place where I learned that at some point, everything else needs to be put aside in order to get the work done. I’m grateful I’ve had the privilege of doing the work among some of the most inspirational women I know.
